The Queer Archive, Past and Present
With Kari Jegerstedt, Mark Gevisser and Runar Jordåen.
From Magnus Hirschfeld’s celebrated Institute of Sexual Sciences in Berlin in the 1920s, to Bergen’s own Norwegian archive for queer history today, queer archives have been places to collect, educate, advocate, excavate hidden histories, expand knowledge, and provide community space.
Kari Jegerstedt will be in dialogue with Mark Gevisser, who is writing a biography of Magnus Hirschfeld, and Runar Jordåen, director of The Norwegian archive for queer history, about the power and value of queer archives as transformative spaces and sites of activism, then and now. Gevisser will also talk about the GALA Queer Archive in South Africa, which he helped found in 1997.
The conversation is in English.
