The Pink Line: Queer Rights around the World
In collaboration with the Centre for Women's and Gender Studies (SKOK)
In the world today, we see a growing divide between countries that give queer people more rights and countries that go in the opposite direction. In working on the book The Pink Line. The World's Queer Frontiers, South African journalist Mark Gevisser visited 21 countries - from Russia to Malawi, from Canada to Israel - to interview queer people about their lives.
Gevisser demonstrates how queer struggles are abused in an ever-increasing political polarisation, and names this tendency The Pink Line. Mark Gevisser will meet Kari Jegerstedt, Director of the Centre for Women's and Gender Research, and Professor Randi Gressgård to discuss how the term ‘the pink line’ can be a useful tool for understanding and mobilising against the backlash against queer rights in the world today. They will also discuss what the election of Trump will mean for LGBTQ rights and freedom around the world, including in Norway.
The conversation is in English.
