Poetic Punk Gala
From nasty and furious, restrained and pensive to joyful and affirmative – poetry encapsulates all of the extremes in the human condition. Eight poets meet this evening in a lyrical world off the map. The evening’s cartographer is the Bergan poet Eira Søyseth.
On the stage, Johannes Anyuru, Swedish poet, playwright and novelist, whose work engages with identity and diversity within contemporary Sweden. Gisela Casimiro is a Portuguese writer, activist and artist who was born in Guinea- Bissau. Her work reflects the effects of colonialism. Einar Økland is a Norwegian poet and author, considered one of the most versatile and innovative poets of his time and has been a central part of the Norwegian literary community for more than 50 years. Grethe Fatima Syed from Bergen is a writer, academic and salesperson who made her debut as a poet. Samuel Brzeski is a British-born artist and writer who has made a name for himself in Bergen.He creates performances where language is the raw material.In recent years, Brynjulf Jung Tjønn has made a name for himself with two collections of poetry centred around questions of adoption, love and what it means to be Norwegian and Sumaya Jirde Ali is a Norwegian- Somali poet, author, literary critic and social commentator operating out of Oslo.
