Communism, Catholicism, Capitalism and Living Corpses
Agnes Banach will meet Weronika Murek for a conversation about the living, the dead and who this Mitsjurin is.
The smouldering backdrop to the stories in the book Dyrking av sydlige vekster etter Mitsjurins metode (translated to Norwegian from Polish by Agnes Banach) is the fall of communism, the express capitalism of the nineties, dysfunctional family dynamics and faltering traditions. Polish author Weronika Murek made her debut with this book in 2015 and is recognised as one of today's most interesting young Polish writers. The stories in this book straddle the line between life and death, a dream and waking state, the rational and the irrational.
‘God is everywhere, but so is the state,’ writes translator Agnes Banach in the book's afterword. Banach will meet Murek for a conversation about the living, the dead and who this Mitsjurin is.
This event will be in English.
