A Jewish Journey
Dana Vowinckel in conversation with Fredrik Hagen
Dana Vowinckel's debut novel is a story about Jewish identity in Germany, Israel and the USA. En verden i flyt (translated to Norwegian from German by Ute Neumann) is about fifteen-year-old Margarita. Although she really wants to stay at home in Berlin during the summer holidays, it is decided that Margarita will travel to Israel to visit her mother, who left the family when Margarita was a child. On their visit to Israel, mother and daughter embark on a road trip through the country - to Tel Aviv and Eilat, to the Dead Sea and the West Bank. The trip brings to life old conflicts and hurtful memories and a loneliness that the girl is unable to forget.
Vowinckel's debut novel was acclaimed by critics in Germany and has won several literary awards. At LitFestBergen, she will meet author and historian Fredrik Hagen to discuss the book and Jewish identity across generations and continents.
The conversation will be in English.
